About Me
Greetings! I am a data nerd with a master's degree in GIS. My diverse background includes data management, data science, technical operations, and training. My skills encompass the full data lifecycle, from collecting data and downloading logger data out in the field, to designing and implementing database solutions for ecological monitoring protocols (including ETL processes and data QAQC) to managing and analyzing large geospatial and non-geospatial datasets, automating GIS workflows with Python, and publishing datasets with metadata using RStudio. I am also familiar in UAV∖remote sensing analysis (LiDAR, multispectral, radar, and thermal imagery).
My career path has been somewhat unconventional, but it's tied together with the thread of technical problem-solving and dedication to learning. During my time in the Navy, I developed a strong work ethic, a foundation in technical operations and training, and the capacity to quickly learn complex concepts and skills. Following a rather winding route, I earned my M.S. in Geographic Information Science, seeing the world as my oyster with so many fields and industries using GIS. During an internship with the National Park Service, where I gained valuable data science and data management experience, I realized my true passion was applying these skills within the field of natural resources and conservation. I wanted to work with natural resources and conservation professionals, helping to manage and preserve the landscapes and wildlife that have always held a special place in my heart.
Teamwork and collaboration are key to achieving shared goals, and I am a positive and enthusiastic individual who thrives in such environments. I understand the importance of attentive listening and clear communication, fostering relationships with colleagues and clients alike. Driven by genuine curiosity and a desire to expand my knowledge and skills, I am a proactive learner. I am passionate about applying my analytical skills to new and challenging projects in natural resources management and conservation. I am confident that my unique combination of technical proficiency, problem-solving skills, and interpersonal abilities would make me a valuable asset to any team.
Digital nomad
Currently, I work remotely from my home office and wherever my travels take me, whether that's a friend's or family member's home or my campervan. The flexibility of remote work has greatly improved my quality of life, allowing me to pursue my personal and professional interests without having to sacrifice either. While I enjoy the freedom of working from wherever I happen to be, I also value the opportunity to work alongside a team in person. For me, it's not about working remotely all the time; it's about having the flexibility to work in a way that supports both my career and the life I want to live.
Hobbies
Backpacking and hiking are my favorite things to do, whether it be lush forests, rocky summits, or winding slot canyons. In 2014, I thru hiked the Appalachian Trail, but these days I do shorter hikes and backpacking trips but try to get out on longer ones when possible. In 2022, I hiked the Wind River High Route with friends. After nine days, almost 100 miles, and 20,000 feet of elevation gain, we finished one of the most stunning hikes I've ever been on. The rugged terrain, cross-country travel, and ever-changing weather made the trip even more memorable. Recently, I became interested in botany to enrich my hiking experience. Since I started learning how to identify plants, I am suddenly hyper aware of the vast variety of vegetation everywhere I go. Aside from hiking and looking at plants, I also love to fish, run trails, and snuggle under a blanket with a book.
